Annual Bishop Healy Award Dinner, November 2015

The Bishop Healy award dinner began 22 years ago as a way for the community to gather and celebrate the lives of those who served within the Black Catholic Community in the Archdiocese of Boston.  Some of the honorees have included, Dr. Sylvia Quarrel-Simons, Most Honorable David Nelson and Barbara Wilson, JD.  and this year’s recipients Sr. Margaret Leonard, LSA and Ms. Beulah Providence. The dinner is sponsored by Black Catholic Ministries within the Office of Outreach and Cultural Diversity.

This year’s dinner began at 6:30 pm with a cocktail reception followed by dinner at 7:30 pm.  The entertainment for the night included the Archdiocese of Boston Black Catholic Choir, the Karolines, and the dancers from the Dominican Cultural Group.  Over 300 people attended the dinner. The Dinner continued with the key note deliverance by Ms. Adrienne Curry, this year’s special guest.

Joe Johnson, Master of Ceremonies for the evening, introduced the Most Reverend Peter Uglietto, Auxiliary Bishop of Boston, Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia who delivered the invocation. Bishop Uglietto then presented Sr. Margaret Leonard, LSA with the 2015 Robert L. Ruffin Award and Ms. Beulah Providence with the 2015 Bishop James Augustine Healy Award.  Both recipients thanked God and their communities and friends for allowing them the opportunity to receive these most prestigious awards.

A raffle was held which included prizes such as a wine basket, Red Sox memorabilia, autographed books by Fr. Jude Osunkwo, African Headdresses and many more.

The Benediction was delivered by Rev. Michael C. Harrington, Director of the Office of Outreach and Cultural Diversity.  The evening ended with the Archdiocese of Boston Black Catholic Choir singing The Anthem Lift Every Voice.
