Holy week is the most important and special week of our Catholic Faith,  and it is particularly special how our Ethnic Communities go about celebrating Holy Week.

Starting with Palm Sunday, bringing the community outside into procession is a beautiful testimony for all of those to see the and acknowledge the preparations for holy week.

The week starts with the washing of the feet. Many of our Ethnic communities join in Bilingual Masses with the other members of their parish community, truly embracing the unity and example of serving one another.

An unique characteristic of many of our ethnic communities is their presentation of  the live stations of the cross. Many of our Brazilian and Hispanic communities have the custom to hold a live stations of the cross presentation on Good Friday. It is a beautiful depiction of our Lord’s passion, allowing youth and young adults to come together to deliver to the parish community the most beautiful act of love ever expressed, Christ giving His life in order to deliver us from our sins and death.

The conclusion of holy week is always beautiful with the Paschal Vigil and Easter Sunday! In the past years we have seen a beautiful increase in our Asian communities in welcoming new members to the faith. This Easter the Korean Community welcomed 12 new members into the church, and the Chinese Community welcomed 9 new members. It is always beautiful to see the witness of faith and love among us and to welcome our Brothers and Sisters into the Church on the day that Christ resurrected!
