For over 30 years, the Cape Verdean community of the Archdiocese of Boston celebrates the Feast of St. John the Baptist, a tradition celebrated by the Catholic faithful of the Cape Verde islands. Every year Catholic Cape Verdeans of New England gather for this celebration with Holy Mass, a procession through the streets of Brockton, MA and a gathering with traditional food, music and activities from the islands.

On June 22, 2014, a large group of faithful, from kids to adults, processed the streets of Brockton praying the rosary. Following the procession, the faithful gathered in St. Edith Stein Parish  for a standing room only Holy Mass presided over by Fr. Antonio Leal, who came directly from the Cape Verde Island.

The lively Mass was followed by a feast with Cape Verdean food, music, games and the traditional “Mastro”, which hanging from its branches are goods considered the “fruits of the labor” of the islands.
