On July 26th, 2014 the Nigerian Catholic Community of the Archdiocese of Boston celebrated their 25th anniversary. In the summer of 1988, few Nigerian families living in Boston were granted permission to worship separately on Sundays and united, founded what would become one of the biggest Nigerian Catholic Community outside of the motherland.

Furthermore,  the Nigerian Catholic Community at St. Katharine Drexel Parish is also the oldest continuously existing Nigerian Catholic Community in the U.S. The Silver Jubilee of this community is with no doubt a very special celebration for those who helped build this community, watched it grow and for all of those who have joined the community along the years.

“The many contributions of the Nigerian Community in the Church and in the Archdiocese of Boston are a grace and a blessing from God.” – Cardinal Sean O’Malley

In this quarter-century the Community has done very well to maintain what is best in the culture of the Nigerian Catholic Church, without ignoring the importance of working and living in harmony with the local Church in the Archdiocese of Boston.” – Cardinal Arinze
